Healing Your Grief Like a Boss

Nancy B. Alston

THERE ARE 10 ESSENTIAL STEPS TO START HEALING YOUR GRIEF LIKE A BOSS!

Remember:

“Cowardice asks the question – is it safe?
Expediency asks the question – is it politic?
Vanity asks the question – is it popular?
But conscience asks the question – is it right?
And there comes a time when one must take a position
that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular;
but one must take it BECAUSE it is right.”
~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Don’t Bury Your Emotions. Above all other actions, don’t bury your emotions. In your own way, releasing your deep sorrowful emotions is a necessary healing step. Write your deepest emotions down, in your diary. Verbalize your emotions. Tell your story.

Search inward for your inner strength. You can best measure your strength by how well you respond to unwanted, often unexpected, circumstances. There is a power within you that you may have not yet discovered. Linking into your inner strength is essential and can be an exciting discovery. Perhaps you have not needed that undiscovered strength until now. It will require determination and effort. You do have that inner strength.

Choosing to rise above the pain point in your life is a better choice. You have the inner power to not just get ready to live, but live. Choose to live now to the best of your abilities.

Call your grief what it is – Grief. I learned as I experienced unwanted and unexpected sorrow, grief, and loss, that I must call my grief what it was – grief. As I came to understand fully the source of my grief, I was better able to identify the power of the unique sorrow I was experiencing. Then I was able to deal with my sorrow circumstance on a helpful new level.

On your grief healing journey, you will become aware of many detours and emotions that you will face. Feeling hopeless, feeling powerless and depressed, not knowing where to turn for help, both physical and emotional pain, feelings of anger, regret, heartache, and disappointment, to mention a few. So, if some of the foregoing emotions are part of your journey. Do not feel discouraged these detours are normal and unique to many who sorrow after horrendous grief happenings. You will be able to work through these detours.

Healing Like a Boss Hashtag 9
Search for a caregiver. In fact, seek help from more than one caregiver. Early in your grief experience you will become conscious of the need and benefit from others’ help. Early in my grief journey new hope turned out to be a must-have and a wanted companion. A caregiver can help you have hope and peace while healing. If you haven’t already, find a reliable caregiver.

Healing Like a Boss Hashtag 10
Don’t leave God out. Don’t count on your own inspiration as your only source of healing help. How can you understand your grief? How can you wipe away your darkest grief? How can you find a brighter tomorrow? These are all questions when faced with dreadful grief you will look into your inspiration for answers.
After you have sought to better understand how you can work through your sorrow, don’t leave God out of your healing formula.

“God provides the wind, Man must raise the sail.”
~ Saint Augustine

Communing with God can give you inspiration and strength beyond your own inspiration and abilities. Nonetheless, after communion with your God realize you must still raise your sail and seek the wind to heal from your unbearable sorrow.

“Healing blessings come in many ways, each suited to our individual needs, as known to Him who loves us best. Sometimes a “healing” cures our illness or lifts our burden. But sometimes we are “healed” by being given strength or understanding or patience to bear the burdens placed upon us.” ~ Elder Dallin H. Oaks November Ensign 2006

You can start healing and stop grieving like a boss!
